Grinch Decorations for Christmas Time

Making some Grinch Christmas decorations can be cheap by using wine bottles or some items from the Dollar Store (can you tell I love the Dollar Tree??!!)

DIY Grinch wine bottles were a big hit!  I think I made around 10 of them.

If you are looking for outdoor decorations, head over to Ehow to see how to make this cute outside Grinch decor.

I got inspired by this picture on Pinterest and made my own Grinch sneaking up the stairs window decal.

I found the file here. Then I used the same method of slicing it to fit Smart Vinyl as I did with my larger than mat characters.

Since I was using Smart Vinyl and my Cricut Maker 3, I was able to cut it out in long strips. If you have the Cricut Venture, you might be able to cut the Grinch SVG cut file all at once!

Then I applied it to the outside of my window and I love how Mr. Grinch looks!

I added a whimsical Christmas tree to the other window.

An extra bonus is that we can see the Grinch silhouette images from the inside of the house too!

I love this wreath!  It is only a picture, but I had to include it in the roundup.  You could make it with some feather boas and red glitter ornaments and hang it on your front door.

Grinch Craft with Face Mask

This year I wanted a new Grinch decoration signifying what a crazy year we have been in to raise our Christmas spirits. You can use just the basic Grinch face image to make a similar Grinch decoration without the mask.

So I put together a new Grinch SVG file with a face mask and the sentiment Stink Stank Stunk!

cricut grinch crafts

I do have a quick process video of these steps at the top or the side of this post so make sure to watch it!

I grabbed a few Dollar Tree supplies including a green kitchen towel and a Santa hat. I had an embroidery hoop on hand but you can find them on Amazon here.

Upload the Grinch face mask file from below and upload into CDS. Size it to fit your embroidery hoop. I made mine a little over 8 inches wide.

Make sure to turn on the mirror setting when cutting out iron-on vinyl. If you need additional help, make sure to check out my tutorial on using heat transfer vinyl.

Place the HTV shiny side down on a mat and cut on iron-on setting.

Weed off the extra vinyl.

I’m going to be using my EasyPress 2 so I looked up the settings for polyester and also for cotton and they were the same. So I preheated my EasyPress 2 to 315F.

I placed the EasyPress mat in between the two sides of the Santa hat and pressed it for about 5 seconds.

Then I placed the HTV on the hat rim and pressed it for 30 seconds.

applying htv to santa hat

When using Cricut iron-on vinyl I find it best to let it cool for about 60 seconds before you try to remove it. Then peel off the plastic backing.

Then I applied the Grinch eyes with face mask on the green towel. I pressed the towel for a few seconds and then placed the Grinch face on it. It doesn’t need to be centered since an embroidery hoop will be going around it.

Press for the full 30 seconds. Then let it cool.

Since the towel is not really flat fabric it the iron-on wants to peel off if it’s too warm. So let it cool for about a minute or so and then remove the plastic.

Place the eyes and words on (if using), place a protective sheet over the entire image and press for another 30 seconds. Flip over and press for 15 seconds.

Let everything cool and then remove the plastic backings.

Then take apart your embroidery hoop and put the backside underneath the grinch towel. Secure the top part. Trim off the extra fabric and glue it to the backside.

Place the Santa hat on top and fold in the backside if it’s too big. I ended up just putting a clamp where I folded the rim over (or you could use a safety pin or even cut and sew it!).

Then hang it on the wall or place it on the tree! The Grinch gives me a chuckle every time I look at him!

FREE Grinch Face with Mask Cut File

This file is for personal use only!

Sometimes the file will look blurry when you first open it, but once you download it, the SVG will open up clearly.

If it doesn’t automatically download, you might need to right-click on it and Save As. If you need additional help, make sure to check out my post on how to download and upload files to CDS.

Or check out my Cricut Design Space 101 series for even more tutorials.

It would also be cute to be put on a bottle of sanitizer as student or teacher gifts or to put in a You’ve Been Elfed bucket.

Hi Becki, this is just a roundup of Grinch projects I love so I'm not sure how they did it. My guess is from using green feathery boas from a craft store. I used some when I was making the Grinch ornaments and they look the same. Just wrap them around a wreath base. I might have to make one myself so I'll let you know if I do!
