  • Wine bottles – ask friends and you will get a ton.  I soak mine in hot soapy water with a little bit of tea tree oil and the labels usually side right off.  Or sometimes if they are super sticky, I have to scrape a bit.
  • Spray paint – I used Krylon ColorMaster gloss watermelon and satin sea glass from Walmart
  • Decorations – I used twine, fabric petals and charms found at a craft store

How to Spray Paint Wine Bottles

There really is not too much to these!  Once your bottles are label-free and clean, place them outside and spray them.

I used two different fun spring colors to make them colorful.

Make sure to put them on a tarp or newspaper so you don’t make a huge mess when painting the bottles.

Spray slowly up and down as you walk around the bottle.

I walk around them spraying about 3-4 times until they’re covered.

I have also used chalk paint and glass enamel paint when painting wine bottles.  I used both paints when I made some cute Christmas wine bottles with lights.

How to Decorate Wine Bottles

Once they are dry, decorate them however you like!  I wrapped twine around some of mine and added little charms and flowers with a glue stick.

I added a bible verse (a free printable I found online from The Mountain View Cottage here!) and a mason jar wrapped in burlap ribbon and filled with daffodils to each table.

The table hostesses got to take home the bottles at the end of the night so I didn’t end up with 12 colored wine bottles!

I have recently sprayed a few wine bottles and used tape to mask off a one inch stripe going around the bottle for interest and it looked awesome!

I have a problem with the paint running when I spray paint. How do you Avoid that?

What kind of paint are you using? Also, make sure to be about a foot away and keep constant spray motion around the bottle. If it's too cold, that might also have an effect.
