DIY Photo Props: FREE SVG Cut Files to Get the Party Started!

DIY photo props are super easy and cheap to make.

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right”… Oprah Winfrey.  Amen, right?  New Year’s Eve is one last time to reflect on the year behind us and to be hopeful of the year to come.

A lot of us spend this night laughing and reminiscing with family and/or friends.  A photo booth and funny pictures should be on the top of your list if you are hosting a get-together because everyone loves taking photos!

I wanted to share a super easy and cheap way to make your own photo props.  In my post on DIY graduation ideas, I shared how I made a photo booth and what props I used, but I wanted to make a few specific for New Years.  So, I have a free cut file for you to get started with too.

How to Make Your Own Photo Booth Props

I make all my decorations and props with my Cricut cutting machine.  If you’d like to learn more about what you can do with this amazing machine, make sure to browse my ultimate guide of Cricut ideas.

Upload them into Cricut Design Space.  If you need further details on how to do this step, watch my video tutorial on uploading to CDS.

Once you have them on a canvas in CDS, ungroup them.  Ungroup button is inthe upper right corner.

Then you can resize them to however big you want them.  I made the lips around 4 inches and glasses around 6-7.  Hats even bigger.

Then in the color sync tab (up in top right section next to “Layers”), I like to minimize the number of colors I have so there are less mats.  I made them all fit into three colors.  You can drag and drop any image to a different color layer.

Sometimes CDS does not do the best job of filling up the mats.  If it’s showing me I need to cut one color on two mats, I change the “material size” to 12 x 24 so it puts everything on one mat.

Then I manually move and rotate the images around to see if I can get them to fit in a 12×12 paper size.  I just like conserving paper and time as much as possible!

Cut them all out on cardstock setting, weed off the extra paper.  Now, assemble the few that have layers with a tape glider or glue stick.

Now, all you need to do is attach them to something you can hold on to.  I used some straws I had on hand that were kind of festive.  You could also use wooden dowels or even non-pointy skewers.

Simply tape them to the back and try to cut off any tape that may be seen (if you are a perfectionist like me!)
